HALLOWED
-First book in the Alchemy of Crows duology-
In a land where magic decays under a cruel curse, half-witch Eleanor D’Argent must defy her father’s ruthless ambitions for war and strike a dangerous bargain with her sworn enemy, the Unseelie King. As she battles the seductive pull of her darkening magic and unearths the secrets buried in her late mother’s past, the survival of her coven teeters on the brink of extinction. But the curse and her mother’s coven are intertwined in ways she never imagined—and the terrible power brewing within her is far more alluring and deadly than she ever dreamed.
Perfect for fans of Rachel Gillig and Holly Black, HALLOWED is a romantic fantasy which draws inspiration from the Hebrew mythology of Lilith, loosely reimagined through a gothic, feminist lens. Written in the midnight hours between clinical anatomy exams and 6am hospital placements, it is a very personal love letter to strange girls with big unknowable hearts, to lost culture, to witches and their mothers and their grandmothers before them, and to the ambition and macabre magic in their veins.
Inspiration behind HALLOWED
Research that informed the Alchemy of Crows duology
Perhaps this was a little naive, but I really wasn't aware of how much research was involved in writing a book! Throughout the long hours spent planning and drafting, I gathered a lot of source material that I could reference to inform the complex political structures, themes of conflict, philosophies of power, and practice of witchcraft so that the world and the actions of my characters felt grounded and real.
